Fish oil and Greenhouse gas emissions?
Shir KonasEvery morning, like clockwork, I take a number of supplements with my breakfast. One of these supplements is fish oil. Since I started taking fish oil on a daily basis (three or four years ago), keeping off excess weight has been much easier for me, not to mention many other benefits. But this morning, I heard on the radio something that really made me think: Did you know that farm animals’ digestive gasses add significantly to greenhouse emissions once released?

What do you feel like eating today?
Blake Baxter HHCLet’s talk about your feelings.
No, really. And if that sounds like a strange proposition for an article on athletic nutrition, I will admit it seems a little… funny.

Discipline
Master Robert ThomasOne of the most important aspects in the study of martial arts is the development of a disciplined mind. All others skills pale in comparison. A person can learn to throw a punch, a kick, lock an arm or leg or throw an opponent, but you will not do any of these well or master the techniques unless you utilize discipline.
Discipline is concentrated control in your training and performance. You control the movements of your body and control the thoughts in your mind consistently to achieve an objective. There is an old adage that says, “Practice makes perfect.” I disagree: Disciplined practice makes perfect.
The undisciplined person seems awkward to the eye of the beholder. Read More
Warrior Spirit
First Lieutenant Jennifer SheringhamThe movie 300 gave a lot of people inspiration to “look” like a Spartan-warrior. However, looking like a warrior and being a warrior are two separate things.
The path of a warrior consists of hard work, sweat, discipline, dedication and extreme sacrifice. Most of us in the advanced fitness industry, mainly fighters, like to take-on the warrior way of life. It is a strict path that one must choose. How does the warrior spirit measure up to the American Soldier? Read More
Quality of life – Part 4: Faith and Spirituality
John PeponiasSports Quotes – Muhammad Ali:
”It’s lack of faith that makes people afraid of meeting challenges, and I believed in myself”.
How often do we see athletes, when winning a contest, regardless of sport, “thank God” or say they “had faith in their coaching and mental preparation”, essentially, crediting something greater than themselves or their physical ability alone for their successes or triumphs? It’s interesting that we find it happens almost all the time! Read More
Father-TRAINER-FIGHTER RELATIONSHIP…
Shir KonasA few weeks ago I visited Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn for a special event: The Master’s Boxing Show (which followed the Master’s Clinic). There I met one of the boxers – Johnny Schulz, who came from Florida especially for this event. During his outstanding match, he knocked his opponent out of the ring… and of course, won the fight. Johnny is also a boxing and MMA writer for a website called 15 Rounds, and he was excited about Better Human and our mission to help prepare athletes for training, competition and life in general. Johnny sent me this story to share with you, our readers: Read More
